Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo has made his long-awaited return to competitive football after recovering from a lengthy injury setback, featuring in Blackburn Rovers’ 2-1 victory over Cardiff City at Ewood Park.

The Leone Stars winger returned to first team action for the first time since October 2025, marking an important milestone in his recovery. Kargbo featured until the 74th minute as Rovers extended their unbeaten run to three consecutive matches.

Blackburn took control of the encounter in the first half, with Andri Gudjohnsen opening the scoring after being set up by Todd Cantwell. Gudjohnsen calmly finished past Cardiff goalkeeper Nathan Trott to register his fifth goal of the season.

Cantwell later turned from provider to goalscorer, doubling Blackburn’s advantage with a left-footed strike before the halftime break.

Cardiff City mounted a second-half comeback attempt when Callum Robinson pulled a goal back, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and setting up a tense finish.

Despite the visitors’ pressure, Blackburn maintained their composure and created further opportunities to extend their advantage. However, neither side managed another goal as Rovers held on to claim maximum points.

While the victory strengthened Blackburn’s recent run of form, Kargbo’s return was another significant highlight of the encounter.

The Sierra Leone international’s comeback will be particularly encouraging for Leone Stars supporters, with his pace, attacking ability and experience offering valuable options for the national team.

Having endured a prolonged period away from competitive action, Kargbo will now be hoping to regain his match sharpness, secure regular playing time and rebuild his momentum at club level.
