The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it will hear the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on 8 October 2026 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
According to a statement issued by CAS, the appeal, registered on 25 March 2026, challenges CAF’s decision to declare that Senegal forfeited the AFCON 2025 final and to award Morocco a 3-0 victory, officially recognising the Moroccan national team as the tournament champions.
The FSF is asking CAS to overturn CAF’s decision and declare Senegal the legitimate winners of the 2025 AFCON.
CAS stated that both parties declined to expedite the proceedings, meaning the case is following the standard arbitration timeline under CAS procedural rules. The hearing date was agreed upon after consultation with both parties.
The hearing will be held behind closed doors, as neither side requested that it be open to the public.
Following the hearing, the CAS panel will begin its deliberations before issuing a final ruling. However, the court noted that no decision will be announced on the day of the hearing, and it could not specify when the final verdict will be delivered.
The case is expected to be one of the most closely watched football legal disputes in Africa, with the outcome set to determine the official winner of the 2025 AFCON tournament.
