The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), University of Sierra Leone, Professor James B. W. Russell, has commended examination supervisors, invigilators and other personnel overseeing the ongoing examinations at the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, while reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic integrity, discipline and quality assurance.
Professor Russell joined the examination team at the Faculty to observe the conduct of the examinations and engage with officials responsible for ensuring a credible and orderly assessment process.
His presence at the examination venue underscored COMAHS’ emphasis on maintaining credible assessment procedures and upholding high academic standards, particularly in the training of healthcare professionals.
Despite his responsibilities as a senior clinician and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Russell took time to personally assess the examination environment, interact with supervisors and invigilators, and observe the measures being implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Russell emphasised that safeguarding the integrity of examinations requires the collective responsibility of everyone involved in the academic process.
“The credibility of any academic institution depends largely on the integrity of its assessment processes. Our presence here demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that examinations are conducted in a fair, transparent and disciplined environment. We owe it to our students, the University and the country to uphold the highest academic standards, particularly in the training of future healthcare professionals,” he said.
Professor Russell also praised the examination team for what he described as a high level of organisation, professionalism and commitment.
“I am impressed with the level of organisation, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by our examination supervisors, invigilators, the Examination Officer, faculty members and the entire support team. Their collective efforts have contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of these examinations, and I sincerely appreciate their service,” Professor Russell stated.
His engagement with the examination process also demonstrated the importance of accountability and active leadership in maintaining academic standards. By working alongside examination officials, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor reinforced COMAHS’ commitment to transparency, discipline and excellence in its academic programmes.
Professor Russell thanked the examination supervisors, invigilators, Examination Officer, faculty staff and other personnel who have supported the exercise since its commencement.
He encouraged the team to maintain the same level of professionalism, vigilance and commitment throughout the remaining examination period, stressing that credible examinations remain essential to protecting the integrity of the University’s qualifications and ensuring that future healthcare professionals meet the standards expected of them.
