The Kono District Football Association (KDFA) has officially commenced its U-17 district trials, with more than 60 promising young footballers taking part in the opening day of the selection exercise ahead of the Regional and National U-17 trials.
The trials follow the successful conclusion of the district’s Division One League, Division Two League, FA Cup, and other youth competitions, where outstanding U-17 players were identified and invited to compete for places in the district squad.
The opening session was attended by KDFA Deputy Secretary General Tamba Komba, Head of Competitions Osman Junisa, Diamond FC Head Coach Issa Conteh, and Coach Aiah Musa Fanday.
Addressing the players, Deputy Secretary General Tamba Komba urged them to make the most of the opportunity by showcasing the talent that earned them a place in the trials.
“You are all talented players, and I believe you can do even better. Display the same quality that earned you this opportunity, and when you reach the Regional and National trials, you will stand out. I have confidence in every one of you. I wish you all the very best and a trial free from injuries,” Komba said.
The first day concluded successfully, with Head of Competitions Osman Junisa expressing satisfaction with the quality of players on display, particularly those who impressed during the district competitions.
Coach Aiah Musa Fanday stressed that the selection process would be conducted professionally to ensure only the best players earn the chance to represent Kono District.
“We are conducting these trials to the highest standard so that we can identify the very best players to represent Kono District and, ultimately, Sierra Leone on the biggest football stages,” Fanday stated.
The trials will continue over the coming days as the KDFA finalizes its squad for the Regional and National U-17 competitions, with the aim of nurturing the district’s next generation of football talent.
