The Ministry of Sports (MOS), led by Honourable Minister Augusta James-Teima, and the National Sports Authority (NSA), headed by Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., are set to commence the 2026 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Football and Volleyball Competitions under the theme: “From Office to the Field, Driving Peace and Productivity Through Sports.”

The annual competition, organised by the MOS and NSA, will feature men’s football and women’s volleyball, with the aim of promoting physical fitness, wellness, teamwork, unity and cohesion among civil and public servants.

Speaking on the level of preparedness, Steven Keifala, Director of Participation and Sustainable Sports at the NSA, disclosed that more than 40 MDAs have expressed interest in this year’s competition.

He said the growing participation demonstrates the increasing popularity of the MDA Games and their importance in promoting healthy lifestyles and workplace engagement among public sector workers.

Keifala also confirmed that several high-profile institutions have completed their registration, including the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President and the Sierra Leone House of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Institute of Sports and Chairperson of the Technical Committee, Madam Precious Elizabeth Edmund Amara, said comprehensive rules and regulations have been developed and shared with participating MDAs for their inputs.

She added that training sessions for team captains, coaches and match commissioners have been conducted in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

“Fixtures will be out next week,” Madam Amara confirmed, adding that the official opening date will be announced soon following the completion of the registration and screening processes.

The 2026 MDA Competitions form part of the Ministry of Sports and NSA’s mandate to promote “Sports for All” and enhance productivity in the workplace through sports and physical activity, in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s Human Capital Development agenda.

Meanwhile, intensive technical and physical preparations are already underway, with participating MDAs conducting football and volleyball training sessions at the National Stadium Practice Field and Volleyball Courts ahead of the competition.
