The National Sports Authority (NSA) of Sierra Leone has taken a significant step towards expanding the country’s sports landscape by participating in a British Esports Breakfast Roundtable Discussion held in Glasgow, Scotland, on the sidelines of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The NSA delegation, led by Executive Director Mohamed Alphajor Conteh Esq., joined representatives of British Esports on Thursday, 23 July, to explore opportunities for developing and supporting esports in Sierra Leone and across Commonwealth nations and territories.
Facilitated by British Esports Federation Chairman Andy Payne and his team, the discussions focused on building a sustainable esports ecosystem in Sierra Leone. Key areas included developing national policy frameworks, strengthening governance and safeguarding standards, creating pathways for young people, establishing esports infrastructure, and positioning Sierra Leonean players and teams to compete on the international stage.
The roundtable also identified several priority actions, including conducting a national needs assessment, mapping ICT stakeholders, building strategic partnerships, and expanding opportunities in marketing, communication, education, research, and training within the esports sector.
As part of the engagement, British Esports invited the National Sports Authority to participate in future training programmes in the United Kingdom before the end of 2026, providing an opportunity to further strengthen the country’s capacity in esports development.
The NSA said its participation reflects the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment, under the leadership of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, to diversify sports development and create new opportunities for young people through digital sports.
The British Esports engagement forms part of a series of strategic meetings the National Sports Authority is undertaking in the United Kingdom alongside Sierra Leone’s participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
