Sierra Leone Aquatics has appointed Gibrilla Kanu Bamba as its new Technical Director with immediate effect, following approval by the association’s Executive Committee.
According to a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, the appointment recognises Bamba’s commitment, technical competence, leadership, professionalism and contribution to the development of swimming in Sierra Leone.
Bamba has served as Head Coach of the Sierra Leone Swimming National Team, popularly known as the Sierra Dolphins, for the past three years. During that period, he played a key role in preparing, developing and managing swimmers competing at national, continental and international levels.
His appointment follows the Sierra Dolphins’ participation in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which Sierra Leone Aquatics described as another significant milestone for the country’s swimming programme.
In his new role, Bamba will provide strategic technical leadership for Sierra Leone Aquatics’ swimming programmes. His responsibilities include strengthening the high-performance pathway, coordinating national-team preparations, developing coaches and athletes, identifying emerging talent and establishing technical and performance standards.
Sierra Leone Aquatics said the appointment forms part of its broader effort to strengthen its technical structures and create a sustainable pathway from grassroots participation to elite-level performance.
