GLASGOW, Scotland – Sierra Leone’s aquatics team has arrived in Glasgow ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the delegation beginning its final preparations for the multi-sport event.
The delegation, led by Sierra Leone Aquatics President Mohamed Abdul Turay, departed Freetown earlier this week. Accompanying him were Head Coach Gibrilla Kanu Bamba and swimmers Moses Sahr Yongai, Ibrahim Kamara, and John Alimamy Samura.
The squad was later joined in Glasgow by Olympian Elizabeth Olamiday Sam (OLY), who travelled from the Thanyapura High Performance Centre in Thailand, and Halle Harris, who arrived from London, completing Sierra Leone’s swimming team for the Games.
Soon after arriving, the team held its first training session as part of its final preparations. Before the session, Head Coach Gibrilla Kanu Bamba urged the swimmers to remain focused, disciplined, and determined as they prepare to represent Sierra Leone on the international stage.
In a significant development, Sierra Leone Aquatics announced the appointment of Olympian Elizabeth Olamiday Sam (OLY) as team captain for the Commonwealth Games. The federation said the appointment recognises her international experience, leadership qualities, and commitment to mentoring and motivating her teammates throughout the competition.
With the full delegation now assembled in Glasgow, Sierra Leone Aquatics says it is optimistic the swimmers will produce strong performances while continuing to raise the country’s profile in international aquatics.
