The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SL) has confirmed a 24-athlete delegation that will represent the country in five sporting disciplines at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled for 23 July to 2 August.
Speaking at a press briefing, Chef de Mission Mr. Yaya revealed that Sierra Leone will compete in athletics, boxing, swimming, judo and track cycling after artistic gymnastics was withdrawn due to the ineligibility of the country’s only athlete in that discipline.
The final allocation includes: athletics (8 athletes), boxing (6), swimming (4), judo (4) and track cycling (2). Sierra Leone increased its athlete quota from the initial 19 slots to 24 through additional contingency allocations from the Commonwealth Games Federation.
NOC President Mr. Prince Vandy Sualley thanked the Government, Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority for their support, urging athletes to represent Sierra Leone with discipline and pride.
NSA Executive Director Mr. Mohamed Alphaka Conteh reaffirmed Government’s commitment to supporting all sporting disciplines, while Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima encouraged athletes to compete with honour, uphold fair play and make the nation proud.
The delegation’s preparations, including accreditation and visa processes, are ongoing, with boxing and swimming teams expected to depart on 21 July ahead of the Games.
