Sierra Leone’s elite boxer Josefien Betist is continuing to make her mark in international amateur boxing, strengthening her reputation as one of the country’s leading female athletes.
Born in the Netherlands and based in Ireland, Betist now proudly represents Sierra Leone in World Boxing competition. Her journey reflects years of dedication, technical development and success across Europe, culminating in her role as a member of Sierra Leone’s National Elite Boxing Team.
Betist enjoyed a standout 2023 campaign, winning the Irish Senior Championship and the Irish Under-23 Championship before claiming a bronze medal at the European Under-22 Championships. In 2026, she added three international Box Cup gold medals to her growing list of achievements, with victories in England, Latvia and Germany.
Before switching allegiance to Sierra Leone, Betist was a multiple Dutch national age-group champion and represented the Netherlands internationally. Her experience competing at the highest amateur level has positioned her among Sierra Leone’s strongest medal prospects.
Known for her disciplined approach, tactical intelligence and determination, Betist has consistently competed against some of Europe’s top boxers while helping elevate Sierra Leone’s presence in international women’s boxing.
Looking ahead, Betist has set her sights on major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games, the World Championships and the Olympic Games. Beyond her competitive ambitions, she hopes to inspire the next generation of athletes and contribute to the continued growth of women’s boxing in Sierra Leone and across Africa.
