The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced the completion of a NLe100,000 ex gratia payment to the family of the late Mighty Blackpool FC player, Bureh Ganso Koroma.
In a press release dated Friday, August 14, 2026, the country’s football governing body said NLe75,000 of the amount was provided by the SLFA, while Mighty Blackpool FC contributed NLe25,000.
According to the Association, Mighty Blackpool had paid its NLe25,000 contribution into the SLFA’s account on March 13, 2026. However, the money was initially omitted from the payment arrangement for the bereaved family due to what the SLFA described as an “administrative omission.”
The SLFA acknowledged the error and accepted responsibility for the resulting delay, confirming that the full NLe100,000 has now been paid to Koroma’s family.
“The SLFA acknowledges and sincerely regrets this omission, accepts full responsibility for the delay, and has now ensured that the full amount has been paid to the bereaved family,” the Association stated.
The payment follows recommendations made by an Ad Hoc Committee established by the SLFA Executive Committee to investigate concerns surrounding the circumstances that led to the death of the late footballer.
The Association also commended Mighty Blackpool FC for its contribution and cooperation in fulfilling the payment arrangement.
SLFA further extended its condolences to the family of Bureh Ganso Koroma as the football community continues to mourn the former Mighty Blackpool player.
