Sponsorship Boom Marks Babadi Kamara’s First Year at SLFA
The first year of Babadi Kamara’s presidency has been marked by a deliberate and strategic expansion of commercial partnerships, reinforcing the Sierra Leone Football Association’s (SLFA) commitment to financial sustainability and institutional growth.
Within just twelve months, the Association successfully negotiated and secured major sponsorship agreements for both men’s and women’s football competitions, broadening the financial base of the game while strengthening stakeholder confidence.
Among the most significant achievements is the US$150,000 sponsorship from Marampa Mines for the Women’s Premier League, representing one of the largest private-sector investments in women’s football in Sierra Leone.
Leone Rock Metal Group also increased its sponsorship of the Men’s Premier League to US$180,000, while providing essential equipment to support football officiating and enhance the work of referees across the country.
The Association further secured a landmark sponsorship agreement with Orange Sierra Leone, valued at more than NLe 2.8 million, for the FA Cup competition. The partnership has significantly strengthened the tournament’s operational capacity, expanded participation, and enhanced its commercial appeal.
In addition, the SLFA entered into strategic partnerships with Orange Sierra Leone and Africell to develop value-added service platforms designed to generate sustainable revenue through football-related digital content and fan engagement initiatives.
President Babadi Kamara has consistently maintained that the future of Sierra Leone football depends on building a financially self-sustaining institution with diversified revenue streams capable of reducing reliance on traditional funding sources. The commercial partnerships secured during his first year in office reflect that vision and signal a determined effort to place the Association on a stronger financial footing for the future.
