Wilberforce Strikers have secured their place in the Leone Rock Premier League after a vital 1-0 victory over Luawa FC in a Match Week 34 fixture played at the SLFA Academy on Thursday, July 16.
With survival on the line, Wilberforce Strikers knew only a win would keep their top-flight hopes alive, while Luawa FC entered the match needing a positive result to avoid relegation.
Both teams displayed tactical discipline, maintaining compact defensive structures and limiting clear scoring opportunities. However, the decisive moment came early in the match.
In the 9th minute, a defensive lapse from Luawa FC allowed Mohamed Kargbo to beat two defenders before driving into the six-yard box. The forward showed composure and awareness, cutting the ball back to Mohamed Tarawallie, who calmly tapped home to give Wilberforce the lead.
Luawa FC responded strongly after the break, enjoying more possession and putting pressure on the Wilberforce defence. Despite their dominance and attacking efforts, they were unable to find the breakthrough needed to level the score.
Tarawallie’s early strike proved enough to secure all three points and preserve Wilberforce Strikers’ Leone Rock Premier League status.
The defeat, meanwhile, confirms Luawa FC’s relegation from Sierra Leone’s top-flight football, bringing an end to their Premier League campaign.
