FREETOWN, Sierra Leone, August 28, 2026 — World Aquatics has formally acknowledged the notification of Sierra Leone Aquatics’ General Assembly and Elective Congress scheduled for December 19, 2026.
Sierra Leone Aquatics, formerly known as the Sierra Leone Swimming Federation, announced on Friday that it had received formal correspondence from World Aquatics confirming receipt of the notification regarding the upcoming congress.
According to the federation, World Aquatics Legal Counsel Jan Exner acknowledged the proposed date on behalf of the international governing body for aquatic sports.
The General Assembly and Elective Congress is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 19, and will include the election of new office bearers who will lead Sierra Leone Aquatics.
The federation described the acknowledgement as an important step towards ensuring good governance, institutional accountability, regulatory compliance and transparency in its electoral process.
Sierra Leone Aquatics said it remains committed to conducting the elections in a fair, transparent and constitutionally compliant manner, with the participation of all duly recognised voting members.
The organisation said further details regarding the venue, agenda, candidate nominations, electoral procedures and accreditation of delegates will be communicated to eligible voting members and other relevant stakeholders in due course.
The December congress is expected to be an important constitutional exercise for Sierra Leone Aquatics as members prepare to elect a new leadership and determine the federation’s administrative direction.
Sierra Leone Aquatics also called for the continued cooperation of athletes, coaches, officials, sports authorities and other stakeholders ahead of the congress.
