French football legend Zinedine Zidane has officially been appointed as the new head coach of the French national team, marking the beginning of a new era for Les Bleus.
The 54-year-old succeeds Didier Deschamps, whose remarkable 14-year tenure came to an end following France’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Deschamps leaves behind an outstanding legacy that includes the 2018 FIFA World Cup title and the 2021 UEFA Nations League trophy.
Zidane, widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in football history, returns to coaching after five years away from the touchline. During his time at Real Madrid, he won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles and multiple domestic honours, while as a player he inspired France to World Cup glory in 1998 and UEFA Euro success in 2000.
His appointment has been eagerly anticipated by French football fans, with expectations now focused on leading a talented generation into the 2028 UEFA European Championship and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
